GHS 40 LEGACY APPEAL

Can you believe the past four decades have gone by so quickly? Gloucester High School celebrates its 40th anniversary this year!  And who would have thought that the upstart little school it was in 1963 would – in a single generation – grow into the mature and respected institution it is today?   In fact, Gloucester is now the largest high school in Eastern Ontario. The most diverse, both culturally and academically. The most sophisticated. The most dynamic. Dare we say - THE BEST.

And why has Gloucester matured so nicely? Well, you start with a great mix of kids: all kinds of backgrounds, all kinds of imagination and hopes, all kinds of talent and energy.  Add a formidable staff of well-trained, energetic and committed teachers and administrators. Provide great facilities and a supportive environment. And finally - most important  - sink your roots deep into a wonderful community that cares about its children and the future that is in store for them. Indeed, the future that they will be building.

Which brings us to the simple request of this appeal from a Gloucester graduate who went on to Carleton University, the University of Oxford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology but who will never forget where his foundation really began right here at Gloucester High School

The request is to make an investment in the hopes and aspirations of the next generation of Gloucester students. In our 40th anniversary year, we have launched an appeal to members of our great community to contribute to a legacy fund that will help advance the aspirations of current and future generations of Gloucester students:

·        Donations of any amount toward a growing “GHS Legacy Scholarship Fund”, to enable the school to award bursaries to deserving graduates now and in future years.

·        Donations of any amount toward a “GHS Legacy Student Activities Fund” that will enable Gloucester’s own student “Gator Parliament” to support the numerous student clubs it represents. This may range from the acquisition or repair of special equipment to the sponsorship of worthy student projects, such as musical concerts and sports activities, multicultural programs, social service initiatives and academic and technology competitions. In short, providing resources to let the heart, energy and imagination of our young students go to work.

·

Your donations will be gratefully acknowledged in GHS 40 anniversary communications and on our new dedicated alumni website: gloucesterhigh.ca. You will be provided tax receipts for donations of $20 or more. And in your heart you will know forever that you did something great, in this time and place, for the next generation of Gloucester students.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Sincerely,

J. Phillip Nicholson
